Students
91Ó°ÊÓ uses course evaluations based on the IDEA methodology to collect feedback from students regarding their courses. IDEA course evaluations are a standardized approach to gathering student feedback on teaching and learning experiences. They help instructors and academic units assess instructional effectiveness, recognize strengths, and identify areas for improvement. Student feedback is carefully considered by faculty, department chairs, deans, and the Office of the Provost to help improve courses and instruction. At no time will students be personally identified with their responses. Honest feedback helps 91Ó°ÊÓ in its efforts to continually improve the educational experience.
Faculty are notified of the completion rate during the process; however, at no time are students individually identified as having completed the evaluation. This information helps faculty improve the courses and is an important part of the SACSCOC accreditation process.
Accessing course evaluations
When course evaluations become available, students will receive an email notification containing a link to the evaluation. Students may also access course evaluations through the Course Evaluation link that appears as a pop-up notification and within the course navigation menu in Canvas.
Course evaluations can be completed on a computer or mobile device and are typically available during the final two weeks of a course.
Common Questions:
Question: How do I access, complete, or edit my course evaluations?
Answer: Course evaluations can be accessed through the link provided in the evaluation email notification or through Canvas when evaluations are available. For detailed instructions, please refer to the .
Question: Why am I not receiving emails for course evaluations from the Office of the Provost?
Answer: If your course is an Internship, Externship, Independent Study, or has fewer than three students enrolled, then your course is not evaluated in order to protect student anonymity. If your course does not meet the above exclusions, then please check your clutter folder in your 91Ó°ÊÓ email account for the emails.
Question: I am in the process of completing my evaluations, but I noticed that the wrong courses are listed. How do I fix this?
Answer: Please email Danny Muntean (dmuntean@hc.edu). He will assist you in making sure you are able to evaluate the correct courses.
Question: Are my responses anonymous?
Answer: Yes, students will not be identified by name with their submissions.
Question: Why am I still receiving email messages?
Answer: Reminder email messages will be received until all surveys have received responses.
Question: I missed the deadline. Am I still able to submit an evaluation?
Answer: Once the course evaluation deadlines pass for a particular semester, it cannot be reopened or receive late evaluations.
Faculty & Administrators
Active Administration Capabilities
Faculty members possess the capability to monitor completion rates for each of their courses on their faculty portal page. Here is a support article on . Please note that faculty cannot identify which students have submitted an evaluation.
Accessing Evaluation Results
Faculty can access their course evaluation results by logging into .
Faculty members have access to their historical course evaluation results that are available within the system. Historical course evaluation data from Summer 2022 and newer is available in Watermark.
Academic administrators, including the Provost, deans, department chairs, and other authorized users, may also access course evaluation results based on their assigned permissions within the system.
Missing Faculty Reports
There are a few reasons as to why a faculty member may be missing a faculty report for a course section taught in a past term or administration. If the course had fewer than three students enrolled, then the course was not evaluated in order to protect student anonymity. If the course had more than three students enrolled, then it may not have met the response rate threshold requirements. Please note that Internships, Externships, Independent Studies, courses with a “HOSP” location, nursing labs that have zero credits or have a “0” as the second number in their course ID, and courses that have less than three students enrolled (that are not cross-listed) are NOT evaluated.
Course Evaluation Survey
91Ó°ÊÓ Christian University currently uses a course evaluation survey based on the IDEA Teaching Essentials (2016) model, along with two additional custom questions. The survey is designed to gather student feedback on teaching practices that are strongly associated with effective instruction and student learning.
The survey evaluates seven key teaching behaviors:
(1) displaying personal interest in students and their learning,
(2) finding ways to help students answer their own questions,
(3) demonstrating the importance and significance of the subject matter,
(4) making it clear how each topic fit into the course,
(5) explaining course material clearly and concisely,
(6) introducing stimulating ideas about the subject, and
(7) inspiring students to set and achieve goals that really challenge them.
In addition, students rate their own motivation, background preparation, and desire to take the course. These questions provide context for interpreting evaluation results. Students also evaluate the course overall, their instructor overall, and have the opportunity to provide open-ended comments.
As part of 91Ó°ÊÓ’s mission, students are also asked whether they had opportunities to connect Christianity to what they were learning and whether their instructor modeled the Christian life.
Most students complete the survey in approximately 5–10 minutes.
Timeline of Administrations

- Students receive email notifications when course evaluations become available. Faculty also receive a notification informing them that evaluations are open and encouraging them to remind students to participate.
- Students typically have approximately two weeks to complete their course evaluations.
- After the evaluation period closes and final grades have been submitted, course evaluation results become available to faculty and authorized administrators within Watermark.
